Meet the Artists

Mary Brown

“Several years ago, I read the book Drawing On the Right Side Of the Brain, by Betty Edwards, and something ‘clicked’. I took some art classes and discovered my inherent artistic abilities and my desire to paint. While raising my 3 children and working fulltime in the financial business sector, I could only paint occasionally. Since retiring, I’ve had more time to devote to painting. After the loss of 2 children and a great grandchild, watercolor painting has become a healing force in my life. Painting to me is a time of spiritual meditation and reflection. Watching the watercolors spread on the paper gives me pure enjoyment, and now Isee’ the world in a whole new way. My paintings include landscapes, florals, and abstracts.”

“For as long as I can remember, I have always liked to draw. In school, art was always my favorite class. Prior to meeting Mary, I had taken some art lessons in drawing, and painting in oil and tempera. Not long after we met, she introduced me to watercolor, and I just loved it. Mostly, I paint for my own enjoyment; however, I have done some paintings on commission. As you will see, my paintings vary from wild animals to portraits of family and friends. The thing about being an artist, is that you see everything in so much more detail. You see the colors and shadows with greater clarity. The trees are no longer just green, and the sky is no longer just blue with white clouds.”
